The NewScientist reports that the first spam message was sent 30 years ago and drew a strong and negative reaction. That spammer didn’t bother to conceal his identity and actually had a co-worker type in the 393 recipient email addresses by hand.
I’m not susprised that 80-90% of all emails sent today are spam. However, email is hardly the only medium used by today’s spammers. Along with the vanilla email spam, you have blog comment, blog trackback and even calendar spam!
Personally, I have had success using Akismet for all my blog spam and Gmail along with a Boolean junk filter in my email client – Evolution for the email variety.
How do you handle your spam?
